Having Universal as part of the production team definitely improves the chances of Summer Wars getting an American Theater release. But there are no guarantee's of course. I wouldn't worry about it getting licensed and distributed in the states. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time drew enough press and acclaim for Mamouru Hosoda to assure an R1 release.

You're lips to the gods ears Orion. I've been intrigued by this movie for a bit now, and I'd love to see it get a R1 release. Even better if it gets a decent dub.

I have to expose my ignorance on this... I'm not that familiar with Universal Studios involvement with the distribution of R1 anime -- other than what they did with Geneon. Well, that, and some strange desire to import American kids cartoons to Japan *cough*Curious George*cough*.

Does having Universal involved really improve the chance of an R1 relase?

Sorry Clovous it's possibly still playing in theaters in Japan, so it's probably going to be a while. The first Japanese dvd release will probably be around Christmas. R1? Ya definitely not until at least Summer 2010. Universal was involved in production so the will probably distributing it here in the states.

I thought about posting the first five minutes of this movie too, but it is unsubbed. Ironically it's overdubbed with Japanese for the first couple of minutes so if you listen carefully you can hear the English in the Background. I can't wait for this movie to come out in the R1.
