Anime Social

Hello...my name is Clovous and I am an anime addict. Okay...just a quick question when did you first become addicted to anime and what was it that got you hooked. For me, I guess you could say I'm still a newbie. I've only been watching anime for about a year and it all started with Inuyasha on Adult Swim. After that, it was all down hill..or up hill?

I casually watched a couple anime before Inuyasha came on, but that show was definitely appointment TV for me. I always wanted to see what crazy-ass demons the group was going to be up against. Remember the hair demon? Japanese folklore rocks! I have been horribly addicted to anime ever since!
Adult Swim bums me out these days, because they don't show as much anime anymore. I'm not too fond of the silly shows that populate the line-up these days. Thank goodness for Netflix!

Well, my "addict" story is fairly awsome because it has stages :D
But before I go into my stages, know this~~ I'm not a yaoi, yuri, shonen-ai, ect ect fan girl nor will I ever be!

Stage 1: "The Baby who did not know she was watching 'anime' (or should she be called a young kid)"
I was probably 7 or 8 years old (I'm a 1990 baby yo!) when I first started watching anime. Of course not knowing what I was watching had some fancy tag on it other than 'cartoon.' I believe I was watching shows such as Sailor Moon, Digimon, Medabots, Zoids, Megaman, Cardcaptors (CRAP dub with the name changes.... and the show should have been called Cardcaptor Sakura but nooooo. The english dub had to have a different name >.>) and so on. I was banned by my parents from watching Dragonball, Pokemon and Yugioh because apparently those shows weren't for kids. ROFL. Oh parents, how naive. xD I later found out Pokemon and Yugioh were banned because my mom thought I'd get addicated to the card games! *pstttt I secretly watched these shows anyways*

Stage 2: "OH! It's called anime, manga and so onnnnnn"
I did not know Japan made anime and manga untill like my 7th grade year. A friend of mine brought volume 2 of Tokyo Mew Mew to school one day and told me what 'manga' was and how anime was the animated form of these comics. I was amazed! I ended up asking for some manga for my birthday that year (I beilieve I got the first volume of the flipped version of Cardcaptor Sakura, volume 1 of Tokyo Mew Mew and volume 1 of CPMs release of Comic Party). I was not an addict at this point because I still only watched what I had been (was never up long enough to watch anime on [adult swim]) watching on TV, but I now knew what it was. My 8th grade year, though, I began spending my allowance on one voulume of manga a month- Fruits Basket being the first series I started buying. I eventually started asking for manga on holidays and began purchasing anime my 8th grade year as well. The first series I bought was the complete first season of Magic Knight Rayearth and later (same bday) bought the complete Angelic Layer collection.

Stage 3: "I can download this stuff >.>"
My 10th grade year I meet, online non the less, an otaku who ran a vlog series on YouTube who introduced me to the world of downloading anime. I lost track of what I first downloaded (it was probably something like Kamichama Karin or Mushi-uta >.>), but I don't download like a crazy lady these days. I usually stick to what's coming out within 2-3 seasons unless there's a series I must watch. Haha. Eventually, this otaku introduced me to the online group he was (he's still kind of apart of it but he doesn't really do anything anymore because of colege) apart of and I became part of the team. It's a group that focuses on Japan in general but with a heavy focus on anime and manga. I run an online magazine for that group and I'm part of several podcasts :] I'm a bonafied online otaku. I have a review blog, a DeviantART that has mainly manga style art and other such nerd sites. You'll learn how otaku I am, it's something that can't be explained.
