Beginner's Guide to Anime

Create a list of 10 anime for someone just starting out in anime to watch.

1. Howl's Moving Castle
2. Paprika
3. Ghost in the Shell
4. Appleseed
5. Ninja Scroll
6. Mezzo Forte
7. Vampire Hunter D
8. Cowboy Bebop Remix (6-Disc Series)
9. Demon City Shinjuku
10. The Professional: GOLGO 13

here's why:
1. Miyazaki is a good solid start.
2. Kon is also a good solid start.
3. GitS is a seminal work and a good example of cyperpunk anime.
4. App has amazing CGI and is an expample of mecha/police anime.
5. NS is also a seminal work and an example of ninja/saurai anime.
6. MF has a good story and animation. it is an example of chicks with guns anime. (i considered Kite, but thought that for a newbie, it may be a bit 'intense'.)
7. VHD is another seminal work and an example of vampire anime.
8. CB Re is a great character driven series. it has humor, action, and compelling stories.
9. DCS is a good example of demon anime.
10. G13 is just one of my faves. my first big screen anime. it is also a good example of violent anime.

Should point out that there are 3 AppleSeeds.

i disagree. there can be only one. directed by Shinji Aramaki and released in '04/'05. the previous one was a bad dream and the followup has a different name. Appleseed EX Machina must be seen after Appleseed and thus does not belong on a beginner's list. but that's just my opinion. i happen to be right though. as per normal.

Well maybe but you have forgotten Akira and G13 is not good for a beginer well since I'm older but otherwise the list looks good

i may get kicked off the site for saying this, but... i don't like Akira. never have.
Golgo 13 is a vanity of mine.
and this is a list for adults.

how about posting a list? i'd love to see what you would suggest to a newbie. you have a different experience with anime than i do.

True this sounds good I think we coud make a contest out of it get a few other of our breathren to do the same cool I'M thinking it is a guide for beginers so ok cool let me think about it for a little while
